The pack is a great way to get your children outdoors learning and exploring lines of symmetry. There are different activities and worksheets that will get your children exploring the outdoors while thinking about and creating patterns and shapes with one and more lines of symmetry. We have aimed this pack at years 3 – 5, however it can be used in most years with different levels of support and outcomes. This coordinate activity pack contains two different sets of activities and is designed to help children master coordinates in a fun and engaging way. One of the activities contains 8 differentiated (4 quadrant and 1 quadrant) worksheets where the children need to crack the code by finding the hidden animal name in the coordinates gird. The second is an outdoor activity where the children must hide words that make up a secret message at the correct coordinates around your school. This activity was a real hit with my class and now they do it for fun! It is also great for improving map reading skills. This activity gets your students looking at fact families through the very popular bar model. This pack contains 8 differentiated sheets where they must use the bar model to help them complete the blank boxes to make the fact family by finding the appropriate additions and subtractions. Playground Battleships is a great way to learn about, or recap finding coordinates on a one quadrant grid. In pairs your class will play a large scale version of Battleships by drawing a grid using chalk and then using natural objects or chalk to keep track of when and where their ships have been hit. This board game is great fun and will give your class tons of practise looking at 1 more or less, 10 more or less, as well as some bigger numbers for an extra challenge. It’s a no-prep game (all you need is dice and counters) which can be played with 2 or more players. I have used this resource very successfully as a lesson however I now keep a pile at the back of the classroom that children can use as an extension activity or treat (they love it that much!). This is a fun and practical concrete addition activity that will help your little ones carry out basic sums using cubes to help them. For this game students will roll the dice, find the corresponding square, complete the addition and stack the correct number of cubes on the square. For example, if they rolled a 6, they would find the square with the 6 dice next to it, complete the addition (using the cubes to help), and stack that many cubes on top of the square. This is a simple but fun activity that will help improve your classes measuring skills. Using a ruler, meter stick, trundle wheel, tape measure, or other measuring tool get your class to measure and record different items in your outdoor space. It can be useful to give clear demonstrations as to how to use the different equipment. This activity can be further differentiated by allowing students to use a variety of equipment as well as asking them to measure to a greater level of accuracy.
